This is a 24-week intensive course, which is written in-line with the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
This course combines the Level 2 Introduction to Counselling and the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills courses and is the pathway onto further training to become a counsellor.
This course will not allow you to practice as a counsellor, but you will need a level 2 and 3 course in counselling skills to be accepted onto a level 4 practitioners’ diploma.
The course is fully accredited with the Federation of Holistic Therapists, who are the largest professional body for complementary, beauty and sports therapy.
Anyone working in a caring profession or as a therapist, who desires to add these communication and counselling skills to their existing skills set, or for those who wish to pursue a career as a counsellor.
The course is run on a Wednesday, 10am until 5pm for 24 weeks (not including the school holidays).
Course commences on Wednesday 8th January 2025 and finishes July 30th, 2025.
Students are expected to study in addition to classroom attendance.
You should allow for approximately 4 additional hours per week independent study for assignment work, reading and journal writing.
The fee for this course is £1,895 or £1,795 if paying in full.
A non-refundable deposit of £375 (which is taken off the total course fee) is required to secure your place on the course and then 8 monthly instalments of £190.
There will be 5 mandatory textbooks to purchase (second hand from bookshops or online), details of which will be given to you at the interview.
The course has four modules.
Module 1 concentrates on the legislation and context upon which counselling is based. There is a written assignment to complete for this module.
Module 2 concentrates on the practice of counselling skills. This module has two practical assessments to complete and a written assignment.
Module 3 focuses on the different theorists and theories that underpin the practice of counselling. You will be introduced to the work of Humanistic theorists, Carl Rogers and Eric Berne, among others, along with the work of Psychodynamic theorists, Freud and John Bowlby, among others. We also look at the work of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy theorists, Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis. There is a written assignment to complete with this module.
Module 4 is centred around your personal and professional development as a user of counselling skills. You will learn about professional development, reflective practice and how to plan for your personal and professional development. There are journals to complete within this module, along with a written assignment. Students are expected to write a 500-600 word journal following each lesson.
Please note that there is NO external placement required for this course.
Students will not gain certification if the coursework is not completed, their attendance is below 85%, or any fees are outstanding by the end of the course.
Once you have started the course, any money already paid will not be refunded, and you will be liable for the total course fees, even if you have withdrawn. This is standard practice now in most academies and colleges.
Once you have enrolled on the course, students have up to 7 days before the course commences to withdraw, should you change your mind, but please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
